Online Games

Online games require a player to connect to the Internet to play. In contrast to computer and video games that require a specific hardware system the online games are usually independent of platforms and utilize standard Web browsers or plug-ins to display the game’s interface. Online games differ from traditional video and computer games in that they typically include a social element for example, creating a character or avatar, and could allow players to communicate with other people from around the world.

Since the early 1990s online gaming has grown in popularity because technology for network communication has improved. With the rapid development of social media, developers were able to harness the potential of Facebook and other popular social networks to develop “Facebook games,” such as Zynga’s Mafia Wars and Farmville, that enticed a wide audience by simplifying game design and graphics, and encouraging players to recruit friends to join the game. The number of games available online has grown exponentially since the advent of tablets and smartphones. A lot of these games use mobile technology to bring large numbers of players together in virtual multiplayer experiences.

When choosing an online game it is essential to think about your preferences in gaming, do thorough research on reviews and ratings, join in gaming communities and consider accessibility and costs. Young and children should be encouraged to discuss their gaming habits with trusted adults. This will help them make the best decisions for themselves.
